Feet first

Feet come in many shapes and sizes but one thing is for sure: if they hurt, you won’t be happy, much less walking very far. Your feet can be long, narrow or wide, and the arch of your foot may be high, you may be a bit flat footed with low arches, or somewhere in between. Feet are complex things with an incredible number of bits that need to be in balance to avoid painful and debilitating trouble.

Our arches help us adapt to changing ground underfoot, flexing and distributing weight as we walk. One easy way to get a picture of your foot shape is to simply dip them into water then make a careful footprint on a thick piece of paper. If you are flat-footed you will get a long, full wide image. With higher arches there will almost no imprint from heel to sole.
